Raised outside of Philadelphia, PA, Allison Blackwell has been able to distinguish herself as a force of nature in the theatre and concert world with her versatile voice and outgoing personality. Making her Broadway debut in the 2012 Tony Award winning and Grammy nominated revival of The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess, she has been seen in such Broadway shows as The Lion King, Pretty Woman: The Musical, A Night With Janis Joplin and New York, New York. Her regional theatre work includes lead roles at The Marriott Theatre (Chicago), Ogunquit Playhouse, Paper Mill Playhouse, Sacramento Music Circus, Dallas Theatre Center, North Shore Music Theatre, American Repertory Theatre, Barrington Stage Company and Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera. She received a San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award for Best Supporting Actress for her portrayal of Dotty/Washing Machine in Caroline, or Change (TheatreWorks, CA). Her guest artist concert work has allowed her to perform alongside such orchestras as The Boston Pops, The Philly Pops, Atlanta Symphony, New York Philharmonic, Houston Symphony and The New York Pops. Ms. Blackwell has been seen on television in such shows as The Today Show, The View, 66th Annual Tony Awards and two Live at Lincoln Center Productions; Show Boat and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street (2014 Creative Arts Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Program). Allison Blackwell holds a B.A in English/Drama from Spelman College and a M.M. from The Boston Conservatory.
